The ongoing series moves on to colour, UNIT, Pertwee and John.

When my wife and I married in 2014, we started watching Doctor Who in order, one story a week. Five and a half years later we finished and started again. These are a combination of my scattershot notes from the first and second WhoThroughs.

SPEARHEAD FROM SPACE

Crazily high production value implied by shooting wholly on film, and on location, that’ll not be repeated for decades. “We’ve drawn attention to ourselves”, probes into space, a very sound set-up for what’s coming. …

The ongoing series sees Troughton off.

THE DOMINATORS

The Dulcians have never met aliens, and have made their entire society peaceful — but somehow we’re meant to see this as a failing since they didn’t foresee alien bad dudes who want to steal…something they’d happily part with anyway. Yeesh. …

The ongoing series sees Troughton go on, Zoe get on and Victoria get off.

THE TOMB OF THE CYBERMEN

A very direct pick-up from last week — this gives Victoria a nod as our point-of-view character, and also has her ask who the Doctor is (his age anyway). Important stuff. Terrible continuity of character new Victoria who already guesses the Doctor won’t leave. …

The ongoing series sees Hartnell go and Troughton go on and on.

THE SMUGGLERS

Strange that so much is similar to The Time Meddler – TARDIS on the beach, climbing cliffs, disbelieving new male companion, a church and its inner rooms, beacons to be lit to signal ships. The Doctor makes a decision that the companions don’t drink, despite meeting them in a night club. Jamaica seems to changes…

It’s not a revolution. But it is a story where the villain gets the leading role.

The ongoing series goes on to Hartnell’s third season.

When my wife and I first married in 2014, we enthusiastically committed to watching a Doctor Who story a week, in order, until we were done. Five and a half years later, we finished. (With The Timeless Children. Which at least has the decency to bookend An Unearthly Child nicely as a title.)

And with that done…we decided to start all over again.

The ongoing journey keeps ongoing, watching William Hartnell’s second series.

An ongoing journey through every series of Doctor Who begins ongoing.

When my wife and I first married in 2014, we enthusiastically committed to watching a Doctor Who story a week, in order, until we were done. Five and a half years later, we finished. (With The Timeless Children. Which at least has the decency to bookend An Unearthly Child nicely as a title.)

Years one, two, three four and five of our marriage are marked by the stories we reached that week.

And with that done…we decided to start all over again.

Posted here are a combination of my notes from the first and second WhoThroughs. Scattered sentences and thoughts. Likely some of it won’t make sense unless you’re familiar with the episodes.

But if you love the show…

It’s just a quick web video. Churlish to analyse it. So here I am.

What if the best ever Doctor Who season finale happened in the current style?
